Getting Rid of What is Bugging You

What's bugging you?
What's bugging you?

We have had a problem with annoying gnats in our house. In the past, I could just wave my hand to get them away from me. They didn’t bother me too much. Just little annoyances that I didn’t give much thought to. However, now I don’t have the capability to handle them. Instead of waving them off, they land on me and stay. They distract me from my work, my hobbies, my peace. They are no longer minor annoyances I can brush off.

I gave in – just thinking they were something I had to live with. Does that sound familiar? Not necessarily the gnats, but little annoyances that begin to fester because you don’t have the tools or energy to fight them anymore. You give up and accept them as things you just have to live with even though they interfere with work, hobbies, and your internal peace.

What can you do to rid yourself of these things that bug you?

When it came to my gnats, I did nothing. I had no solutions and gave up. I was resigned to living with them. However, I had someone who saw the problem, had the tools to handle those pesky gnats, and jumped in to resolve the problem (My awesome niece Amber). Her solution was simple and took little time to implement. Within a day my gnats were gone. They no longer festered and distracted. A weight had been lifted that I didn’t even realize I was carrying. (Her solution is at the bottom of the blog for those of you who have annoying gnats!)

Could it really be that simple? Giving your burdens to someone else to handle? Yes, it can be. Now, I don’t mean sticking your head in the sand and ignoring problems. I don’t mean that you shouldn’t take ownership of your own actions. You are still in control of your life. What I mean is that it is okay to acknowledge that you need help. It is okay to reach out to those who might have more of an understanding of the problem and how it can be solved.

If you have given up, accepted your life won’t change, or feel burdened by so many things, then find help. Find someone who has access to tools or solutions. Who can shoulder or remove what’s bothering you – your spouse, a family member, a friend, a doctor, a counselor, your pastor. You might be thinking, “I’m too embarrassed or ashamed to tell anyone.” If that is the case, start with talking to God. He is the one who will never judge you or share your secrets. Give your burdens to Him, and you might be surprised with how He brings people or solutions into your life that can help you get rid of what is bugging you.

Amber’s Gnat Solution

·       Mix apple cider vinegar with a small amount of Dawn dish soap

·       Pour mixture into small open containers and place one in the rooms you are seeing gnats

·       That’s it!
